Motivation Monday The Invitation - When I Grow Up
Motivation Monday The Invitation - When I Grow Up All of my Motivation Monday posts have been image-based, but when my client Sophie emailed me this poem, I knew it had to be included within this series. The Invitation by Oriah Mountain Dreamer It doesnt interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your hearts longing. It doesnt interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love for your dream for the adventure of being alive. It doesnt interest me what planets are squaring your moon I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow if you have been opened by lifes betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain. I want to know if you can sit with pain mine or your own without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it. I want to know if you can be with joy mine or your own if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful to be realistic to remember the limitations of being human. It doesnt interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself. If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul. If you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy. I want to know if you can see Beauty even when it is not pretty every day. And if you can source your own life from its presence. I want to know if you can live with failure yours and mine and still stand at the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, Yes. It doesnt interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair weary and bruised to the bone and do what needs to be done to feed the children. It doesnt interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back. It doesnt interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away. I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments. You can read a preview of the book here. The other Motivation Monday installments can be found here.

Tips on How to Write a Good CV
Tips on How to Write a Good CVHow to write a good CV will vary depending on the skill you want to bring to the job. Writing a CV is the first step in securing a future for yourself in the future. 5 Reasons Why Networking is Vital for Your Career Development - ZipJob
5 Reasons Why Networking is Vital for Your Career Development Spread the loveEver wonder why you should attend job fairs, meetups, speakers or similar events? Itâs because networking is a vital part of career development. Networking, at its core, is meeting with people and establishing a mutually beneficial relationship. Networking is also a relatively cheap opportunity to meet like-minded individuals. If you attend the right events, you will find that there are many people that you can learn from and work with.Prepare for Your Big Face to Face InterviewNetworking requires you to get out of your comfort zone and engage in conversation. Think of it as preparation for a high-pressure, in-person interview. Some of the same questions an interviewer may ask you will most likely be topics of conversation at these events. Thinking and responding on your feet, especially in an interview, can create a huge sense of anxiety and nervousness. But practice makes perfect! Practicing your responses to these questions, while networking, can calm those nerves and sharpen your public speaking skills. Broaden Your ScopeNetworking events that are relevant to your field are an awesome opportunity to gather more information. You are, after all, a product of your environment! Even if you are well seasoned in your field, networking can aid you in thinking about topics and or industry issues from a different perspective. You may find that some networking events promote a learning atmosphere. Other events are a more social setting of mingling with people. Both, undoubtedly, can broaden your scope.Networking to Increase Your Chances for Future OpportunitiesYou never know who will be at these networking events. CEOs, Presidents, Senior Level Staff etc. They can all attend networking events, and you would be surprised at how many of them do attend these events.Which brings me to my next point. Networking increases your chances of meeting and connecting with people who can offer you better opportunities for your professional career.Say you attend five networking events, and during one of those events you stumble across an incredibly thought provoking conversation that leads to an introduction to a CEO or VP. While four out of the five events did not produce a goldmine encounter, that one-in-five chance is worth the casual introduction and possible connection, trust me. May the odds be ever in your favor!Build ConfidenceThe more you love your own decisions and ideas, the less you need others to love and accept them for you. For the young professional, building confidence when the majority of the workforce supersedes you in age, experience or skills can be difficult. Networking, as mentioned above, allows us to break out of our comfort zone, both socially and intellectually. Itâs one thing to be comfortable in social situations, itâs another to be comfortable being social about the skills, topics and day-to-day operations required to work in your industry. Say, for instance, you are a social person, but find that you enc ounter some difficulty when it comes to engaging in fruitful conversations that focus on your industry. Networking is a great opportunity to build up a knowledge base in a social setting. On the flip side: Say you are not a social person, but you know a ton about your industry. Networking is perfect for easing into a social setting where you have more than enough material to participate in.Extend Your Contact ListsItâs 2017, only having one mode of communication, i.e. a phone number, is rare. With all the professional social networking platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter, various industry platforms etc., it is simple and easy to connect with someone over the internet. But meeting them first makes it even easier!First, networking is a prime method to increase the number of connections you have. Second, networking is a great way to connect in multiple ways with people who share or have beneficial information for you. It may, after all, be convenient for you to simply pick up your pho ne and call a person, but it might be more convenient for others to send a quick email or LinkedIn message rather than call. Maximize your reach!ConclusionNetworking provides you with great opportunities to open doors, make connections, and learn. It increases your chances of meeting highly influential people who would otherwise not be easy to talk to or find. Itâs important to consider networking when working or seeking employment opportunities. It truly never hurts to stay one step ahead of the game. For more career-building articles, check out the rest of the ZipJob blog.We also do in-depth free resume reviews! Get yours today!

Why Taking A Temp Job Is A Smart Job Search Move - Work It Daily
Why Taking A Temp Job Is A Smart Job Search Move - Work It Daily During the course of 12 months, U.S. staffing companies hire nearly 16 million temporary and contract employees, according to the American Staffing Association. Related: Job Seekers: Why You Should Try A Temp Job While those looking to land a permanent role may find temp work that doesnât guarantee an end to unemployment unenticing, below are six reasons why accepting a contract role may, in fact, be quite savvy: 1. Close The Gap Explaining long stretches of unemployment can be tricky, and unemployment may be viewed as a red flag to a potential employer. The bottom line? Even a less-than-ideal temp job may be perceived as better than no job at all on your resume and LinkedIn profile. 2. Expand Your Skills No two companies are alike, and different corporations will use different systems and employ different processes to do similar work. Contract employment offers you the opportunity to acquire new skills and expertise around different methodologies, software and platforms. The bottom line? Learning about how different companies operate can translate into a diverse skill set that may make you far more employable. 3. Open A New Door Interested in opening the door to a new industry or the chance to position yourself as an industry generalist? Temping can offer you the opportunity to work across diverse industries â" particularly competitive ones. The bottom line? When your goal is to make a move to a new industry, temp work can get your foot in the door, and build a persuasive case that your skills are easily transferable across industries. 4. Grow Your Network Whether or not your contract role evolves into something permanent, a temp job well done means you walk away with solid references, as well as personal and professional inroads in terms of connections who may be able to help you down the line. The bottom line? The more people you know, the greater the chance you will connect with someone that can help you land that next role. If nothing else, temping offers you the opportunity to expand your contact list. 5. Fast Pass To Permanent According to the American Staffing Association, 35% of temporary workers were offered a permanent job during a temporary assignment, and 66% of those accepted the offers. The bottom line? When it comes to going from temp to perm, the stats tell a compelling story. Looks like the odds of permanent employment lie in favor of temp employees. 6. Flexibility For many the biggest perk of temp roles is the flexibility. Contract work can offer more control than permanent roles in that YOU choose who you want to work for and when. The bottom line? Although a role with uncertainty may be scary for some at first, many come to love the freedom of temp work.
